La Terre des Manants, formerly known as Jardin des Campagnols, is first and foremost a life project initiated by Grégoire Berger (CFC of market gardener in bio-production). After years in search of appropriate terrain, Grégoire inherited a 36-acre field from his grand-father in the idyllic village of Arconciel (FR). In 2022, he was joined by Corentin Wicht (PHD in neurosciences, psychologist) - a nature enthusiast who was eager to leave behind a world increasingly controlled by computers. Their meeting resulted in a lasting friendship and a burning desire to promote a more sustainable agriculture and with concern to biodiversity. Together, we aspire to advocate that humans care more for their neighbour, sow the grain of abundance for present and future generations in order to reap their autonomy.
What is our philosophy ?
Here at La Terre des Manants, we are dedicated to a sustainable agriculture and the respect of the soil and its organisms. We put all our efforts into the creation of an authentic ecosystem through the synergy between our market gardening and the various areas dedicated to biodiversity. We apply some founding principles of permaculture such as direct composting, no bare soil, no tillage, culture associations, no commercial intrants or pesticides and promoting diversity (fauna havens, edible forest, living hedges, etc.).
How do we define our agriculture ?
Our engagement to sustainable agriculture translates into our agricultural practice adaptations. Whereas conventional agriculture takes up to 10 calories of petrol for one food calorie, here at La Terre des Manants, we endorse human interactions and manual labour. Thus, we vow to limit our use of fossil fuels, reduce the distance between producers and costumers as well as promote circular economy.
Why do we need your help ?
In order to promote sustainable agriculture as well as to create social connections in the commune of Bois d’Amont, we would love to open a self-service shop in the village of Arconciel (FR). But to do so, we need your support in order to acquire a cold room - to allow us to stock our vegetables - as well as some materials to create a space that is welcoming and pleasant.

When will your vegetables be ready ?
Do not worry, you can already subscribe to one of our various offers of weekly vegetable baskets while the self-service is being created (more info here).
Concerning the self-service shop, the inauguration date is set to be on August 1st, 2023. To celebrate the opening, we will be setting up a welcome-party to which all contributors will be invited.
What about partnerships ?
So far the choice in our shop will be limited to seasonal vegetables. If you are a local producer who share our philosophy, we would love to start a lasting collaboration in order to offer a bigger range of products (fruits, eggs, wheat, tea herbs or other primary products).
